Ritchie Gonzales is motivated by his love of music and the passion to transfer his knowledge and skills to others so their creativity and talent can shine. His mission is for every student to develop a lifelong love of playing the flute and to gain the skills needed to become independent musicians, no matter what their career paths may be. Lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs, and are designed to follow the National Flute Association's Curriculum Guide.
Mr. Gonzales started taking private flute lessons in middle school with Eleanor Tibbals-Pennington MM. Later he joined the San Diego Youth Symphony playing piccolo. With The Youth Symphony, Mr. Gonzales performed across Europe in such concert halls like the Mozarteum, in Salzburg, and the Rudolfinum, in Prague. Mr. Gonzales had the honor of being soloist with the North Coast Symphony (San Diego, CA). Mr. Gonzales was first place winner in the Piccolo-Artist Division at the San Diego Flute Guild Competition & Festival four years in a row. He later moved to Santa Barbara and studied flute performance with Jill Felber at the University of California in Santa Barbara. While under the tutelage of Ms. Felber, Mr. Gonzales was a member of the UCSBSymphony Orchestra, University Wind Ensemble and various other chamber groups. Mr. Gonzales has been in Masterclasses with Clare Southworth (Royal Academy of Music, London) and Tadeu Coelho (University of North Carolina School of the Arts).
Mr. Gonzales was fortunate to work for an El Sistema inspired program called ICAN Music at Franklin Elementary School in Santa Barbara, CA. There he taught 1st and 2nd graders how to read music and to play recorder. Currently, he teaches flute and recorder at the Notre Dame School in Santa Barbara CA.
Mr. Gonzales continues his passion of flute playing by regularly performing with harpist Laurie Rasmussen. Mr. Gonzales is a founding member of the El Presidio Ensemble and artistic director of the Santa Barbara Community Flute Ensemble. Mr. Gonzales is a member of the musical ensemble Seraphonium.
Mr. Gonzales runs his own private flute studio where he especially loves teaching flute to kids with the goal of passing on his love for classical music and hopes to inspire a new generation of flutists.
